Description
This hand-tooled tray in nickel plated brass was made in India exclusively for DAI. It is adorned with etched elements that are enamel painted with an Arabic inscription done in a baroque elaboration of the script in interlacings and twisting of the letter forms, pushing design eccentricities beyond those deemed acceptable to orthodox calligraphic norms of the day. The inscription records a common saying of this period: al jud min akhlaq ahl al Jannah, wassalamah barakah Generosity is a quality of the people of Paradise, and good health is a blessing) Inspirational object: LNS 1093 C, an earthenware bowl from the 11th century, Eastern Iranian world.
