This square kufic inscription was designed by Manuel Keene, former curator of The al-Sabah Collection & expert in kufic calligraphy, during the 1990-91 occupation of Kuwait. Kufic calligraphy is a discipline involving the composition of rigorous designs on a square grid in which letter forms & ‘background’ are of the same dimensions and of equal design impact. “
